The site of the Forges des Salles houses one of the oldest wood-fuelled forges in Brittany, an exceptional vestige of a prosperous and industrial activity that lasted 3 centuries.
The activity of the forge stopped in 1877, the village is now completely restored. The House of the master of the forges, the chapel, the school, the canteen, the blacksmiths and carpenters workshops, halls and the blast furnace building tell the unique story of the life of a community over 200 years ago. In addition to visiting the village, many signs and reconstructed pieces allow you to discover as varied as exciting themes such as the history of the steel industry and the economy of central Brittany in the 18th and 19th centuries, the role of charcoal, water and iron ore, the old techniques, the role of managers and the lives of Breton workers and their families in the forest, at the forge and in their community.
